Remember the good old days where our motorists had to stop and ask for directions whenever they got lost on the road? Sometimes they’d even have to call a friend just to find the right way. Nowadays, whether you’re heading out to an unknown city or just looking for a way to avoid traffic jams, all the information that you’d need is just a click away. So, if you’re geographically-challenged or too shy to bother a random stranger for directions, here are the top 4 mobile apps for you:
- Waze. Waze is the most common and most used navigation app here in the Philippines. Used by private and non-private drivers, this app has been the saving grace for all drivers in the country. You could even save the different routes you wanted to use in the future. One downside to Waze is that the algorithm sometimes makes drivers use the same road with other drivers, making them get stuck in traffic.
- Google maps. A classic in GPS and navigation, Google Maps is also one of the most used apps in the country. Even though it had, in the past, leaked a photo of a gruesome murder, Google Maps is pretty useful, and has the same features with Waze: voice directions and traffic updates.
- Maps.me. Another free navigation app, Mas.me offers offline directions and maps. This app is pretty useful for those who don’t want to exceed their mobile data limit and could even be used to search for hotels and restaurants.
- MMDA app. The MMDA app is quite useful for drivers and commuters who want to check for road accidents and road works in the country. The app can also be used to check for traffic updates, any road closures due to maintenance or events, and for contacting the officers for emergency situations.
