The idea for Cleanfuel started back in 2004 – the continue spike in the price of gasoline during that year prompted Atty. Bong Suntay, who by that time was the owner of the Basic Taxi Fleet and also the president of the Philippine National Taxi Operators Association (PNTOA), to look for a cheaper fuel alternative.

In his travels to Japan, Korea, and Australia, he noticed that taxis in those countries used Liquefield Petroleum Gas (LPG) as fuel. Convinced of the potential of LPG, Atty. Suntay, together with partners Cielo Fregil and Kuki Buencamino, went in search for the best of Auto LPG conversion kits on the market and brought it to the Philippines.

As demand for the Auto LPG conversion kits grew, Atty. Suntay, along with partners Marco Atienza, Ralph Atienza, Ben Andaya and Victor Go, initiated the construction of the first two Cleanfuel stations; one located at E. Rodriguez Avenue and the other at Congressional Avenue, Quezon City. The two Cleanfuel stations were established in 2007 in order to meet the growing demand of taxi units using Auto LPG as fuel.

Today, Cleanfuel has over 100+ stations spread across Luzon and other areas.
